This is from a series of posters I made for revision of the characters in Frankenstein. They each display quotes that would be useful to revise for the GCSE exam. This one is of Frankenstein’s Creature. I printed some out in A4 for my students but they look pretty good in A3 as eye-catching wall displays. Reproducing them in A5 is ideal for individual student revision booklets. Please note that if you have any problems downloading the PDF file, you can email me at wezcartoons@gmail.com and I will send you the file direct. Possible class activities include asking the students to link each of the quotes or comments to a given theme and then explaining why it is significant. Parts of the poster can be blanked out (using correction fluid and photocopying, or by uploading onto a Powerpoint slide and covering parts using shapes) and the students can then be asked to fill in the gaps. Alternatively, the posters can serve as inspiration for the students to create their own versions for other characters and/or texts. The posters can be used in a number of different ways. I often ask students to link each of the quotes or comments to a theme and then to explain why the quote is significant. You could also blank out some of the text (digitally on Powerpoint with shapes covering what you don’t want them to see, or the old-fashioned way with correction fluid and a photocopier.) and ask them to fill in the blanks. The posters can also serve as inspiration for students to make their own posters, based on other characters and/or other texts. This is a Powerpoint presentation on two poems, encouraging practice in analysing unseen poetry for GCSE. I used it with a top set Y9 group who were interested in the general election. It won't work with everyone, and it does require some understanding of the context. The emphasis is on commenting on Theme, Language, Form and Tone and comparing these four sections. The mnemonic used is Turn Left For Tanhouse, because of the local area, but this can easily be changed to 'Town' for more general use. Also included are two Word documents with the poems on, which can serve as handouts for the students to annotate.

I created this for the revision of Romeo and Juliet at GCSE level. This is a multiple round team quiz. It can be given to individuals but it works better with teams because it encourages them to discuss the myriad of potential answers. Each slide has the answers in its notes. Some rounds (such as the picture and music ones) have answers which are not so definitive. If a student gives a different answer and can justify why they have chosen it, allow them the point, as this is where the revision is happening. I tend to do a round and then ask them to swap papers for marking. This means you can keep a running total for each team and make it more competitive. For the music round, I access Youtube. If your school does not allow you access, I recommend downloading the tracks and making a playlist on your phone or laptop. The objects round is optional. Prior to the quiz lesson, you can set a homework task - students must choose an object that symbolises one of the characters and be prepared to give their reasons why. If they do the task well and there is a decent range of different characters, it will work as a round. I have a similar quiz for Frankenstein, so please look at my other resources.

This resource is a series of cartoon posters showing AQA GCSE 9-1 English Language Assessment Objectives. It comprises a Powerpoint featuring 18 posters - nine of these have the AOs in basic form, for ease of understanding; the remaining nine posters feature the AOs in their original form. Downloading the Powerpoint means you will have the opportunity to print as many of these out as you wish, at whichever size you wish - depending on the limitations of your printer. The font I originally used, and which is featured on one of the photos, is Marker Felt. You may need to download this free from the internet if you want the posters to look identical to mine. I recommend laminating them for long term use, and they look particularly effective when cut out.
